I'm still in California. Only about a week until I return to Kentucky, and--as is so common when you spend a few weeks away, even in the most desirable of locations--I'm ready to return home. I want my bed and my stuff and my routine and my gym.
But the holidays were nice. We had a low-key Thanksgiving this year & will be gathering again for a slightly more crowded & festive Christmas at the farm. I went to Disneyland, I went to the mountains...I'm hoping I can make it to the beach before I go home, but it's raining right now. California is desperate for rain so if I don't get to spend an afternoon by the ocean, that's okay.
In the meanwhile, The Secret Heart has been out for almost a month. It's slowly made its way to the major retailers--Amazon, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, and last but not least iTunes. So far responses have been pretty encouraging. I got a great review over at Dear Author (it's a B-, but that's great to me), and a really wonderful review from Mean Fat Old Bat.
A few of my Twitter friends gave the book a whirl & I am grateful--between Willaful's Dear AUthor review, which compared the book to Jo Goodman, and this:
...I'm starting to feel like I'm in good company. These are really flattering comparisons.
Looking forward, there are a few more fun things on the horizon.
I'm going to be reading from The Secret Heart at the Orange County outpost of Lady Jane's Salon on Monday--here's a link to more information, including directions and the like. If you're in or near Orange County, I'd love to see you there.
The second book in my No Better Angels series, The Lover's Knot, is releasing today. It's already live at most of the major vendors (iTunes, Barnes & Noble, Kobo). For once, Amazon is lagging behind the competition but I'll update this post once I have a link. I'm pricing it at $2.99 for the first two weeks after release, and then I'll raise the price to $3.99. So if you're interested, there's an incentive to buy early.
The Lover's Knot is also on Netgalley all month. If you're a reviewer and would like a review copy, I hope you'll check it out.
I've done a fair bit of reading, too, but I'll save that for another post.
